Internet access has been a little spottier than expected, and (gasp) the last time I got online I spent it working… Where I am now doesn’t seem to like me uploading pics, so that will have to wait.
in a nutshell…
Arrival in Frankfurt! All arrived safe and intact, and we managed to get almost 60 km under the wheels after assembling the bikes, grabbing a snack and working our way out of the industrial region.
The weather has been awesome up until the last couple of days – almost too hot sometimes, but there always seems to be a cold beer around the corner when needed.
We followed the Main river upstream to Wurzburg; that took three days, doing good time into the prevailing breezes, but that was made easier by our constant drafting of Scootah. That, and his morning tent farting has earned him his trip nickname: Windbreaker!
In Wurzburg, we did two nights in town camping at the Kanu boating club and touring the town. Has a very Prague-like feel to it. The weather continued to get warmer, and one day I walked from the showers back to the tents along asphalt without shoes. Managed to burn the soles of both feet, hence my given nickname: Hotfoot!
Our last night in Wurzburg was listening to rain showers all night, as you can only go so many sunny days on the plains without a thunderhead building up. We left Wurzburg yesterday to start on the Romantic Road route proper, with cloudy skies all day that threatened rain but managed to hold off until evening. Actually made for a cool ride, which was appreciated as we had a couple of nasty climbs to start the day. Marty especially was worried about those, not so much for the exercise as due to his slight bit of intestinal discomfort. I suppose you can only eat so much spatlze before it catches up with you. That, along with his traditional place in our riding line bringing up the rear has earned him his nickname: the Loose Caboose!
